Per the Yes on Proposition 50 campaign, “Donald Trump and Texas Republicans are making an unprecedented power grab to steal congressional seats and rig the 2026 election before voting even begins.” There are now other Republican states trying to do the same thing. So now, Democratic states must “fight fire with fire.”
Californians believe in and voted for an independent commission to draw congressional maps every 10 years after the census. This is a strong belief; however, circumstances call for a TEMPORARY pause on our bi-partisan California Redistricting Commission until the 2030 Census count begins. “Prop 50 provides emergency maps ONLY because Republicans moved forward with their power grab.
Remember, this proposition is only trying to help make sure the 2026 elections are fair; that California affirms its belief in fair redistricting; gives voters the power and not just partisan gerrymandering partisans; and what is being affirmed on Nov 4th election is that Californians are committed to fair redistricting, voters should be the power brokers, and, believe in the temporary fix that Proposition 50 offers.
