Citizens for Accountable Leadership, better known as CAL, was formerly organized as the African American Leadership Finance Council for the Joe Biden/Kamala Harris Campaign 2020. The group raised over $100,000 within three months of the Biden/Harris November 2020 election. The group decided to continue its efforts as an unincorporated association under the name Citizens for Accountable Leadership (CAL). Its dual mission is to provide a platform for candidates and elected officials to discuss issues that are relevant to the community and thus promotes political engagement, education, and empowerment among citizens.
Additionally, CAL continues to raise funds for compelling candidates running for public office. An added component is that CAL also has looked at Ballot measures up for vote in elections. Often these measures can be confusing and numerous. Through our slate mail program we try to outline our choices for candidates for elected office; and, provide information on some of the ballot measures important to the community.
As an unincorporated association, CAL discusses and endorses candidates and/or ballot measures only if 2/3 of the group agrees. When we endorse, our members donate directly to campaigns. It is important that CAL strives to provide a platform for candidates to discuss issues and promote political engagement and empowerment. Second, CAL is focused on providing financial support to the best of our ability to viable candidates seeking public office.
The organization gives opportunity for candidates to highlight their experience, expertise, and ideas to enhance and help our communities thrive. We also give the public an opportunity to listen and assess the viability of those seeking public office. We focus on the financial needs of viable candidates, and are committed to these efforts on behalf of candidates who present a compelling reason for seeking office.
